NBA Power Rankings Reaction for 2/1/10

Before I get to the power rankings, there is some bad news coming out of the city of New Orleans. Hornets star point guard Chris Paul is out indefinitely with an injured knee. This sucks. There really is no other way to put it. I’m not a big CP3 fan, but he is good for the game, and now New Orleans is more than likely going to miss the playoffs. Just when their football team finally breaks on through to the other side, their basketball team gets completely blind-sided with a killer injury to their best player. The one silver lining is that somebody will be taking his place on the All-Star team, and far be it for me to say that it should be Mountain Drew. I know they play different positions, but hey, why not?

As always, these are based on Marc Stein, who is based in Dallas, of ESPN’s opinion.

Of course the Cavaliers are number one. They have one more win than the Lakers at moment, and beat the Lakers twice in head-to-head play. The only thing I’ll say about LeBron is that he and Kobe should tie for the MVP this year. I think Kobe’s January numbers may have halted any votes for him, and LeBron’s did the exact opposite. However, since they’re tied, and Kobe’s numbers aren’t as good but he has some 4 game-winners and counting, why not share? Ya’ dig?

Besides, in terms of game-winners, LeBron’s got nothin’ on you, Kob.

5. Utah Jazz

Congratulations to the city of Salt Lake. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer have both had great years. They cracked the top 5 for the first time in like two years.

7. Toronto Raptors.

These guys just lost Hedo Turkoglu to injury yesterday, but they still pulled off an entertaining win against the Indiana Pacers. They haven’t lost since beating the Lakers last Sunday, and that figures to continue given their upcoming schedule. I think they play New Jersey twice, or New York and New Jersey each once apiece. Either way, easy win(s).

10. Boston Celtics.

::pause for laughter::

I love it. Keep falling, Boston.

13. Chicago Bulls.

Don’t be surprised to see the Bulls mess this up by making a trade to shave off some salary and ruin their chemistry. I believe they’ve won some 5-straight road games, which is unprecedented for an Eastern Conference team to do on a West Coast trip. I still don’t think they can win with this roster, so something has to be done anyway.

30. New Jersey Nets.
